History
Key Dates in the History of Underwater Hockey:
- 1954 - created in England to improve snorkelling skills of scuba students; called Octopush in that country
- 1962 - Vanquatics Scuba Club of Vancouver begins playing
- 1975 - the First Canadian Men’s Underwater Hockey Championships held in Vancouver
- 1977 - Stephen Bishop brings Underwater Hockey (UWH) from Ontario to Victoria and the Victoria Scuba Club begins playing at UVic
- 1980 - the First World Underwater Hockey tournament is held in Vancouver
- 1980 - the First Annual Victoria Potluck UWH tournament held at UVic
- 1997 - Victoria UWH tournament shifts to Saanich Commonwealth Pool
- 2002 - World UWH tournament is held in Calgary
Governing Bodies
- There used to be an Underwater Hockey Association of BC
- Canadian Underwater Games Association (CUGA)
- Confederation Mondiale des Activities Subaquatiques - they form the international and tournament rules of the sport
